![]() It is one thing to want to present gayness and brotherly attraction as perfectly acceptable if it is based on deep mutual love - but, given the society we live in, that needs to be a final resolution of internal conflicts, if it is to be at all realistic. ![]() ![]() Even then, between the 2 brothers, they seem to accept their mutual attraction as very natural - whereas I find it unbelievable that 2 brothers wouldn't question both their gayness and their incestuous love, at least initially, at great length. It is incredible that the 2 boys, if they were attracted to each other, would only start acting on this as young adults, and not before. There is no mention of the boys' discovery of their sexuality as teenagers - the story jumps from early boyhood to adulthood. The reaction of parents and friends to the brothers' relationship is simply not credible - virtually shrugging their shoulders as if this was completely commonplace. Unfortunately, the film skips over just about every complex issue completely. I thought there was a lot of scope to explore the complex issues of growing up gay in Brazil, and particularly the sensitive question of incestuous love between 2 brothers. Although I liked the other half a dozen Brazilian films I bought, I was disappointed in this one. I bought this mainly because I was learning Brazilian Portuguese, and wanted any movie with English subtitles, so I could practise listening to the language.
